Generating EAN-13 Barcodes for Amazon Listings

To list a product on Amazon, you typically need a unique Global Trade Item Number (GTIN). In most regions, this is an EAN-13 barcode.

1. Why does Amazon require GS1 Barcodes?

Amazon verifies the validity of product barcodes against the GS1 database. If your brand prefix does not match the GS1 records, your listing may be suppressed or removed. Ensure you obtain your numbers from an official GS1 authority.

2. Technical Specifications

  • Digit Count: Exactly 13 digits.
  • Structure: Country Prefix + Manufacturer Code + Product Code + Check Digit.
  • Quiet Zones: Ensure there is enough white space on both sides of the barcode for scanners to detect it.

3. Printing for FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon)

If you are using FBA, your EAN-13 must be clearly printed on the product packaging. We recommend downloading your barcode in SVG format from Qrivio to ensure high-resolution printing on labels, which prevents scanning issues at Amazon warehouses.
